Lip Sync Battle Highlights

Did you catch this year’s Teachers versus Students Lip Sync Battle? These winner take all performances involved a microphone and a large group of uninhibited students and adults. It was the second Annual Lip Sync Battle pitting teachers against students as a fundraiser for the senior class. Whether it was old-school James Brown, Chuck Berry, and even Michael Jackson, or new school Pit-Bull, Chris Brown, Beyoncé or Taylor Swift our teachers and students left their modesty at the door and their energy on the stage floor. Senior Class Advisor Ms. Donna Langhorst-Zamow tells us that there were 10 teacher versus student "battles" and one overall winner. There were 24 teachers and administrators who participated and competed against 17 students. Even though Dr. Bennardo made a big impression with his rendition of “Summer Wind,” apparently, Mr. Rogers and his daughter stole the show with the Disney classic "I See the Light.” And speaking about seeing the light, thank you to the Lamplighters and the always-amazing Alex Dollin for that incredible sound system. It all helped us see and hear Mr. Graziano as he flew off the stage unexpectedly, only to pop up moments later declaring ‘I’m OK.” Photo Gallery Thank you to our judges and emcee’s: Mr. Miranda, Mrs. Tonna, Mr. Karavias and Mr. Dreher, Mr. Varlamos and Mr. Graziano, and to the following performers: Steven Prestia: Working for the Weekend Mrs. Murrell and Dr. Muller: We Are All In This Together Alex Plaisir: Stayin’ Alive Dr. Bennardo: Summer Wind Emma Dunn and Quinn Cortisi: Dance Off Mrs. Ramirez, Mrs. D’Addario, Mrs. Bunnell and Mrs. Zaiff: Gloria Estefan Mix Taninna Oukacine: Wrecking Ball Mr. Goldman: The Gummy Bears Song Andrew Martin and Ricky Hauser: Don’t Go Breakin My Heart Mr. Graziano , Mrs. Bolger and Mrs. Meier: Sweet Caroline Elisabeth Plaisir: I Will Survive Mr. Rogers and Family: I See the Light James Reilly and Dylan Diamond: You’re the One That I Want Mrs. Lugovina, Mrs. Moss, Mr.Chapman: Uptown Funk Kyle Freedman: Rock the Night Mrs. Kiernan: Phantom of the Opera Matt Kaputa, Isaac Renderos, Matthew Cusumano, Robert Leonick: Schuyler Sisters- from Hamilton Mr. Murphy, Mr. Varlamos, Mr. Castillo, Dr. Corcoran and Mr. Smith: Bye Bye Bye Kristy & Kayla Campana: Breakin’ Free Mrs. Latko, Mr. Claps and Mrs. Stueber: Can’t Stop the Feeling

As always, the commitment to academic excellence remains the cornerstone of our South Huntington School District. It is with this understanding that we congratulate this year's inductees into the National Honor Society. This special recognition speaks volumes about a student's intellect, work ethic, character, and deep-seated commitment to service. “The challenge that I present to you is not one that you will necessarily face today, but rather at many points throughout your life,” said Principal John Murphy to his new inductees. “As you move into the final stage of high school and life thereafter, you will face many points where you need to decide between doing something the right way or doing something the wrong way. The moment is sometimes subtle and can even be overlooked, but the choices that you make in those key moments will make all of the difference for the life that you ultimately lead. As you head off into the world, my hope is that each of you will always lean on the values, ethics, and character that you have developed as you make those difficult choices throughout your life.” Daniel Abbruzzese, Christopher Adams, Ife Adebola, Johnique Aiken, Nelsy Alfaro Ortez, Jack Anest, Christopher Babinski, Katie Batkin, Brandon Bellocchio, Joshua Berger, Alexa Betancourth, Christopher Bias, Olivia Biederman, Leevon Black, Chloe Blumberg, Michael Bottoni, Hannah Braun, Nicole Brigante, Michael Bronson, Thomas Brostowin, Lauren Brown, Zachary Bruno, Noelle Bryggman, David Caliendo, Kristy Campana, Campana, Kayla Lesly Carabantes, Julia Chimenti, Desiree Chouinard, Tiffany Chuen, Kristen Coletti, Erin Collins, Christina Corry, Alexa Costas, Danielle D Amico, Angelina D Amico, Thomas De Gaetano, Cayleigh Delgado, Gianna Della Vedova, Alyssa Denis, Elias Dimatis, Onkar Dogra, Tristan Dougherty, Cassidy Dunn, Hunter Eichner, Max Eidinoff, Tajear Farquharson, Julia Fisch, Holly Fontanetta, Joshua Friedman, Emily Fung, Kevin Garay, Sarah Gemunder, Jason Girard, Sarah Glaser, Mikayla Godson, Jacob Goldstein, Alex Greenberg, Samson Grimm, Maegan Guzman, Matthew Haddock, Trevor Hardy, Danielle Harris, Natalie Hayes, Genesis Hernandez, Kathleen Hoppe, Aidan Hoskey, Huma Ilyas, Julia Iovino, Justin Joachim, Timothy Jobson, Joshua Joseph, Nimra Khan, Hailey Khatchatourian, Britany Khatchatourian, Ryan King, Grace Kongevold, Mollie Korn, Maelyn Latko, Katie Latko, Zachary Lella, Jonathan Lew, Wendy Lopez, Nadia Lubrano, Graham Lunt, Kyla Magrane, Aisha Majid, Tyler Malone, Kentaro Matsushima, Logan Matty, Sydney Mc Crea, Scott Mc Entee, Luke Mc Evoy, Griffin Mc Nally, Nathaniel Mc Nally, Ryan Mc Quade, Delaney Mena, Brenda Mendez, Adam Meskill, Aamash Mussa, Michael Naughton, Joanne Nguyen, Grace Noonan, Sean O Donnell, Kelly O Neill, Michael Orlando, Kiersten O Rourke, Daniela Pasquarello, Shailee Patel, Saleena Pawa, Correy Pearlman, Liliana Pelliccia, Ella Podhurst, Shannon Polk, Luigi Portaro, Alexandra Probst, Kaitlyn Riha, Madeline Rosales Portillo, Maureen Rossero, Christian Rozenfeld, Charles Ruotolo, Amina Sadiq, Robert Seebach, Daniela Segura, Michael Seitz, Brittany Shaneberger, Rithik Sharma, Alexandra Sherry, Aiden Smyth, Sean Smyth, Tania Sood, Matt Stampfel, Hannah Stasko, Craig Stockfeder, Mariela Suarez, Clifford Sweezey, Matthew Torres, Brian Trifon, Perry Tripi Jr, Joseph Van Gostein, Rachel Vaughan, Kelsey Villatoro Alfaro, Justin Wallace, Ariana Weindling, Marissa Whelan, Matthew Williams, Jack Wrobel, Shannon Yodice, Natalie Zakrzewski, and Michael Zimmerman. A few moments ago the Suffolk County Police issued a press release reporting that Walt Whitman High School Teacher, Brian Dreher, has been arrested for an inappropriate relationship with a female student. Our school district family is very concerned by these allegations, which were reported by the police and are now being publicized through the media. This is currently an active police investigation and as a result, we are not privy to any additional information. However, the health, safety, and welfare of the South Huntington learning family remains paramount in our minds, and we will do anything and everything to work with authorities in the appropriate manner. While we have little in the way of details at this time, upon Mr. Dreher's release he will be placed on administrative leave and restricted from campus throughout the ongoing investigation. Of course, the South Huntington staff stands ready to assist our students in the hours, days, and weeks to come. Dr. David Bennardo South Huntington Superintendent of Schools

Quick Thinking Saves the Day

First-year WWHS students Melvin Ochoa Amaya and Jose Velasquez Galeano demonstrated composure and heroism while coming to the aid of one of their classmates who was experiencing a seizure during class. Without hesitation, these two young men assisted their teacher, and later the nurse in aiding their classmate. They moved the surrounding desks and cushioned their classmate’s head as to prevent further injury. They also assisted in putting the student on his side - as instructed. Melvin and Jose remained by their classmate and comforted him throughout the ordeal. Furthermore, they cooperated with the First Responders upon arrival. While many others would naturally succumb to fear and panic when faced with such circumstances, these two young men showed poise and bravery throughout. Way to Go Melvin and Jose!
