Mr. Callahan, our College and Career Ready Coach, collaborated with Whitman’s newest Business Instructor, Ms. Lillian Hsaio to train her Accounting students to become tax preparers for Bethpage Federal Credit Union’s Annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The students completed 10 hours of online training and passed an IRS exam before receiving their certification.
Twelve students received training to provide tax help for low-to-moderate income families who need assistance preparing their tax returns. Students volunteer their time on Saturdays through April 11 from 3-6 p.m. to assist families earning less than $55,000 per year prepare their tax returns at the BFCU’s Farmingdale location, free of charge.
