The Suffolk County High School Principals Association is proud to announce that their Principal Leadership Awards have been given to seven distinguished students in Suffolk County. One of those seven is Whitman’s Alexis Darrow. “I was really excited to nominate Lexi, because when I think of her, her name is synonymous with leadership,” said Whitman Principal Kathie Acker. “She’s at every event, whether she’s running it or participating, or both, and she was a key component of our successful Compassion Without Borders last year.” Alexis or ‘Lexi’ as she prefers, is a senior at Walt Whitman and has several colleges she is looking at for next fall where she will continue her interest in Political Science. “My involvement in the School Based Management Team, Student Government, and Compassion Without Borders has helped me mature more into a leader,” said Alexis. “She has such passion for Whitman and through her caring, has grown into a really phenomenal leader,” said Principal Acker. Alexis still finds time for other Whitman co-curricular activities and was a contributing member of the field hockey team this past fall. “I was honored to be nominated for this leadership award and it’s really rewarding to be acknowledged for something that I love to do,” said Alexis. The acknowledgements keep coming for this high achieving senior. We have just learned that Alexis is 1 of 200 students in the nation to be chosen for the Bank of America Student Leaders Program. This prestigious program has only a 3% acceptance rate and Alexis will now receive an eight-week paid summer internship that includes a week-long fully paid leadership summit in Washington D.C. Way To Go Lexi Darrow!
