It was a busy weekend for our athletes and tonight, starting at 7PM, the Fall Sports teams will be recognized for their seasons at the Annual Sports Awards in Whitman’s Performing Arts Center. Over the weekend we had action in the following areas: With strongback to back performances, the Wildcat Cheerleaders opened their season with a 1st place finish at North Babylon High School this past Saturday and then traveled to Kutztown University in PA the very next day for the Regional Qualifier. Congratulations ladies on their 6th place finish out of the regions top 25 teams to land a spot in the Nationals. At the recent Suffolk County Boys Volleyball Coaches Association 2015 Awards Banquet, All-County awards were handed out to Whitman senior Joe Esposito (also All County Academic Team); and freshman Jack Poplawski. Additional awards went to Christian Corbett- All Division- Honorable mention; Waris Barakzai- All County Academic Team; David Grey- All County Academic Team; Jacob Bronson- All County Academic Team; and Wayne Koziatek- All Division. Congratulations to coach Patto and the entire team on a great season. It may be early in the season, but Whitman's Varsity Boys Basketball team stunned Bayport-Blue-Point (BBP) on Saturday night to take the top prize at the Anil John Tournament at Islip. BBP won last years Class A title so it was a significant early test for both squads. Matt Stockfeder made a free throw to put Whitman ahead 54-53 with 42 seconds remaining and a stingy Wildcat defense kept the Phantoms scoreless for the remaining time. Korey Lee had 19 points and nine rebounds and was named the tournament MVP. Willie Petro, who scored nine points, was named to the all-tournament team. Congratulations to our Whitman Wrestlers who had a busy and successful Saturday hosting the Andrew Peers Memorial Tournament yesterday. Taking home 1st Place awards were Thomas DeGaetano at 106lbs, Kevin Romano at 120lbs, and Terron Robinson at 220lbs.
