Our kindergarten classes at Oakwood Primary Center have been participating in a traditional Native American powwow. Led by music teacher Ms. Pinelli, the children sang various Native American songs like "The First Thanksgiving," "Tak for Maden," "Hi Yo Ip Si Na Ya" a song from the Hopi tribe, "Grinding Corn," "Thank You Song," and of course "The Turkey Trot." With the help of their art teachers the children made tom-tom drums out of coffee cans that were adorned with Native American symbols.
Classroom teachers taught the children about Native American culture and made Native American headdresses and vests decorated with picture writing. The students had a great time, and the event was the highlight of everyone’s day. Monday, November 23rd at 9:30 AM will be the final show.
