We hear from varsity coach Rob Conroy and assistant coach Rob Morris that the boys Cross Country team is having a great season. Recently they defeated a strong Northport squad and ran extremely well at the Manhattan Invite, the largest high school meet on the east coast, which was held on October 10th. In the victory over Northport and Lindenhurst the top 5 Whitman runners covered the 5K course at Belmont Lake State Park with times between 16:52 and 17:10 to win their Tri-Meet. The entire top 5 each ran a personal best for the 3.1-mile race. Three other Whitman runners were under the difficult 18-minute barrier as well. Congratulations to: Mike Giarrizzo -16:52, Sean Smyth - 16:52, Aiden Smyth - 16:55, Zach Lella - 17:07, Joe Mendoza 17:10, Victor Chae - 17:14, Alec Gonzalez - 17:46, and Jack Wrobel - 17:47. At this year’s Manhattan Invite the Whitman Sophomore team came in 2nd place overall (1st public school) Congratulations to: Sean Smyth who finished 2nd overall, one second behind the winner; to Aiden Smyth who finished 3rd overall, one second behind his brother, and to Zach Lella who finished an impressive 7th overall. Other individual medalists in the sophomore race were: Jack Wrobel, Jonathan Brigati, Paul Follo, and Eyvin Moreira. The Whitman Freshman race medalists were: Greg DeRosa and Kevin Morrissey. Varsity race medalists were: Mike Giarrizzo, Victor Chae, Joe Mendoza, Alec Gonzalez, and John Creeron. Good luck at the upcoming Section XI Division Championship, held at Sunken Meadow State Park on 10/27.
