The Walt Whitman Varsity Football team lost their season opener in a tight defensive battle against Northport 19-0. The score at halftime was 6-0, as the defensive unit led by Joe Ward with 10 tackles, Angelo Gervasio, Terron Robinson and Anthony Dennison gave the team opportunities to win. “We’re in these games well into the 3rd quarter but offensively we’re just not finishing,” said Varsity Head Coach Robin Rosa. The offense led by Isaiah Wilkerson and Tyrese Betts had opportunities, but couldn't capitalize. The Wildcats dropped their most recent contest against Sachem East 21-6 in a game that was much tighter than the score suggests. “On paper we should be able to compete against these teams,” said Rosa. “We need to execute, we need to put it in when were in the red zone, we need to start scoring.” Come support the team this Saturday at Bayshore, game time is 1pm. The Wildcats next home game is Homecoming Weekend, Saturday October 10th at 2PM as they go up against Sachem North.
