If you happened to catch some of the NFL draft last Friday and this past weekend, viewers, especially Jets fans, couldn’t help notice Super Bowl Champion and Walt Whitman Volunteer Football Coach Emerson Boozer announcing the JETS pick for the NFL Draft. Congratulations Emerson Boozer, you make Walt Whitman High School and South Huntington proud! Did you Know: In 1966, Emerson Boozer of Maryland State College was chosen in the sixth round of theAFL draft by the New York Jets. But he was also picked in the seventh round of the NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Emerson ultimately decided to play for the Jets. The reason? He had seen quarterback Joe Namath play on TV when Namath was in college at Alabama. He had also watched running back Matt Snell at Ohio State, and receiver George Sauer at Texas."You want to play with some of these guys that you've seen and that you know about," Boozer said in a recent phone interview. "I figured we could probably form a pretty good group. And we did. The choice was the right choice." Thank you Dom Cosentino and NJ.com for that inside piece that some of us may still remember.
