On Thursday, February 5, presenters from the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts-in-Education program, Long Island Children’s Museum, and the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum presented the workshop ‘Uncommon Approaches to Common Core’ to our Elementary Special Education, ESL, and Art teachers from Countrywood and Oakwood Primary Centers.
With an emphasis on creativity in the classroom, the program delved into the creative arts, enhancing what the district is already teaching as part of their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) curriculum.
The 4C’s for a successful 21st Century learning experience include: Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking/Problem Solving. Our teachers were engaged by the presentation and returned to their schools excited to integrate new ideas to their classrooms.
