Vincent Feola is a gifted heavyweight wrestler who has powered through local and regional competition since joining the varsity squad. Vince has been a New York State tournament finalist for two consecutive years and has a long, promising future ahead. “The competition was definitely much harder this year,” said Feola. “My finals opponent was ranked 5th in the nation at the time, I’ve wrestled him before and he’s a really good wrestler.” One of the moments at the state championships that Vince savors was a rematch of the Suffolk County Championships against Anthony DiMatteo. “We had beaten each other once, so this was the last time we would meet and it was nice to end our competition with a win.” Vince finished his senior season of Wildcat Wrestling with a 40-3 record.
Vince will be wrestling at North Dakota State University next year and is looking forward to the challenges as well as the family atmosphere that being on a wrestling team embodies. “My time here at Whitman has been great, I’ve really enjoyed my Wrestling teammates and coaches,” said Vince. “Whitman has a young and talented team with a great future.
Sabrina Philippe is a leader of our talented Cheerleading squad, which brought Whitman its first national ranking in school history. “We worked really hard for 10 months to perfect a two minute and thirty second routine, and we went out there and just did it,” said the Whitman senior. “It’s a true team effort. It’s all about dedication and working hard for it to all come together.”
Sabrina has helped elevate our cheerleading program to a place of athletic prominence and provided us with a wonderful foundation for the years to come. “It’s such an accomplishment and honor to be on the team that was the first in Whitman history to bring home a national ranking,” said Sabrina. “We all worked so hard and to be on this team of girls, who have all been like family to me, is great.” Sabrina will be attending Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania in the fall. She will be studying health sciences, with her eye on becoming a physical therapist and hopes to run track for the Lady Eagles.
