Geography matters! The National Geography Bee is “designed to inspire students to be curious about the world.” This year, Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center had four students: Hope Levin, Hunter Millman, Saul Ramos, and Aarav Shah, compete in the Geography Bee. Hope, Saul, and Aarav made it through to the semifinal round. The following student comments tell of their keen interest in geography. Hunter Millman said, “Geography is so cool because, even though, I don’t go around the world; I can still learn about it.” Hope Levin said, “We are geography. We live with geography.” Saúl Ramos added, “It [Geography] could make me an expert on this amazing planet. I hope to join the Geography Bee in the future and do better.” Aarav Shah said, “Going to the Geography Bee was a great experience. I plan to go next year.” Silas Wood plans to continue to spark the interest of students by studying the world, from ancient civilizations to the Middle Ages. Silas Wood teachers, Dr. Bullock and Mr. Morales served as support to the students and faculty.
