At a recent Board of Education meeting, Schools Superintendent Dave Bennardo and BOE President Jim Kaden, along with BOE members and school administrators thanked South Huntington bus driver Elmer Contreras, and the Huntington Manor Fire Department for their quick response to a recent fire at the district’s bus depot.
As it happens, Mr. Contreras was returning to the bus yard after taking our track team to the Armory in Manhattan and noticed that one of our busses was on fire. Mr. Contreras quickly called the Huntington Manor Fire Department and they responded in minutes. Lucky thing for us as only one bus sustained significant damage. The two busses parked on both sides of the bus on fire sustained some light damage, but because of quick thinking, the rest of the fleet was saved from any damage.
Thank you to Mr. Contreras and the volunteers of our Huntington Manor Fire Department.
