The New York Special Olympics, that was hosted by Walt Whitman High School and the South Huntington community in early May, welcomed thousands of visitors that spent the afternoon on the Walt Whitman campus. It was a heartwarming day that exemplified the genuine commitment to others, which characterizes our learning family. While touring the many events, from the 1500M to the 55M, from the Softball throw to Power lifting, a sense of community pride was on display everywhere you went. While visiting the Power lifting event in Whitman’s fitness/training facility one couldn’t help but to notice the incredible array of equipment found similarly in the area’s best gyms. We would like to thank our good neighbor IslandSports Physical Therapy for donating much of the equipment now being used by our students. In speaking with Mr. Keith May, the company’s Executive Director he once again affirmed the character and commitment to community values that makes South Huntington an exceptional place to live and raise families. The people of our community should be very proud to have collaborated in such a worthy collective mission like the Special Olympics. All in all, it was another proud day for our school community and we thank Mr. May and IslandSports Physical Therapy for their part in making South Huntington so special.
